Up For Anything!
This family gives us so many opportunities to capture their fun. For over 3 years now, we have had a chance to capture them at our annual CAMOM Open House where we work from sunup to sundown to capture the twin families of the Columbian Area Mothers of Multiples. We have also gotten the chance to do a beach shoot with them as well. They are always up for anything we suggest and have a great time. Our stuffed monkey toys are often a hit with the small boys, whose giggles ring through the studio and sing in our pictures.

Three Unique Kids
Anyone who has spent any time with little ones know they are each very different. It is especially and adorably poignant in this family with three children that each looks very different from the others - and each has such a unique personality too. Beautiful inside and out! We love capturing them each year in the pre-holiday sittings we hold in Columbia.

Fun-loving Duo
In going through images from 2012, this one struck me. When teens, especially boys, show their sweet side for us, I just melt. This older brother could not have been any more patient, fun, and loving to his spirited and super-funny little brother. Quite a memorable duo for me.

Welcome Baby Thor
Dear Baby Thor,
Welcome to the world. We loved capturing your baby face, in your baby hat, with your baby diaper and baby smell.
Love,
Rebecca and Brian

Photography: The Best Gift for Mom
As with many families, the best gift for Mom is treasured photographs. These boys take time out of their busy schedules to come to a shoot each fall as a Christmas gift for their mother. They even bring Mom along, as she can get the best smiles and laughs from them. Based on what we hear in these sessions, they have some great fun at home with many impressions and inside jokes. It should be a badge of honor for this mom that her boys have grown into such polite and generous teenagers.

Bridal Beauty Shoot
She looks magazine ready, but this was no model. This is the real thing. A girl ready to marry her guy. This lovely bride booked her bridal shoot about 3 weeks before her wedding date. It made for a great trial run for hair, make-up, and flowers, and guaranteed that the dress was altered and ready to go. We had so much fun capturing her closer beauty shots, as well as some full length shots that really featured her amazing lines in the exquisite dress. This bride felt strongly about having no retouching, so what you see here is exactly what we got out of our camera.

Schooled by Preschoolers
Smithsonian Early Educational Center - With this shoot, we had a chance to utilize our creative problem solving and adaptability. We are very comfortable in so many wedding situations, or in an outdoor park, or in our home studio. But even with squeezing our studio set-up into a space often half as large, we still get schooled in adaptability by the kids. Some of them are just so flexible. They meet strangers (some-awesome-cool-strangers-if-I-do-say-so-myself), get put in a room with weird backdrop stuff they have likely never seen before, and then, in less than 3 minutes, give us their genuine little personalities to capture for always. Here are some favorites from our recent preschool shoot at SEEC in Washington, DC.

Be Yourself!
These two have the coolest mom. And it shows! They are funny, smart, confident, and all-around-awesome. We can tell they are encouraged and loved and celebrated each day. What a joy to capture them each year.

An Honest Moment
Again, I will share the image that changed me. We got the chance to capture the most beautiful 6-day-old baby girl with her family last week. Mommy looked AMAZING at not even a week out. There were adorable kisses, hugs, snuggles, and laughter. We captured all this; it was beautiful. And then there was this shot - in between shots. The new mother was not posing, was not aware of the camera, was simply and beautifully looking at her new baby daughter who until very recently had only been imagined. There was a stillness and the baby felt it, and settled into the grace of it. And Brian, ever the artist, felt it and snapped this shot. And there it is. The art of that stillness. The weight of that moment. This image reminds me to look at my daughter, now six-years-old, and just as fascinating and special to me as she was in that first week of life. To look at her. And to see her. To breath into that space of stillness and simply love my child.

This is the shot.
This is the shot. I go through the images we capture. We always capture the images that meet the client's goals. That's a given. But there's always one picture for me. One that breaks my heart.
I gasp.
I sigh.
I smile.
I gaze.
I don't care who likes it, or who appreciates it, or who understands it. I love it. This is the shot.

Time of My Life
The music bounced off the walls of our studio as we captured this family. Modern to classic hits were belted out by family members to help create a mood of fun and relaxation. What a hit!
